Triple Good Time
by Yosef
I played Baseball for this first time in Madison in the summer of 2013. My team was sponsored by Keleny Top Soil. My coach’s name was Dave Bayer. He drafted me in the first round. In this article, I will describe my teammates, the great plays that we made and other teams we played.
Here are the names of my teammates: Alex, Garrett, Theo, Turner, Beau, JR, Sorrel, Sam, Ethan, Andrew, and Kai. My teammates were really nice, and I hope to play next season with the ones who aren’t moving up. Everybody contributed in batting and fielding. I really got to know Alex; he is a good person on the field and off. After games we would talk about what happened. We would replay moments and celebrate what went well and consider improvements. There was only one kid from Van Hise who was on my team, his name was Garrett. He is a great friend and a great teammate.
The best play that Beau, Alex, and I did was a Triple Play. If our defense did not step up we would have lost that game. That play really got the momentum back on our side. I was sweating. From my view in left center, I could see the first pitch was a ball. The next pitch looked like it was in slow motion to me. Crack! Fly ball. It soared in a long arch in my direction! I took a few steps, but had only one chance to make the catch. It was a long way but I dove for the ball. I have to admit that I was kind of scared but I caught it! One out. I rifled it to Beau, our second baseman. He stepped on Second Base to get the runner on his way back to base. Two outs. He threw the baseball to First and got the runner out. Three outs.
Alex was the best hitter on our team. He hit two home runs against the same team, Mad City Labs, but in different games. Alex was the only kid in our age group league who hit a home run all season.
I had friends on other teams, like a guy named David who played for First Choice Dental. My friend Lev played for Pertzborn Plumbing. They played us in the first round of the tournament, and they beat us. You might think, “Why are all the team names weird?” Because all these are companies that sponsor West Madison Little League.
In the tournament we played Pertzborn Plumbing, then Mad City Labs. Last we played Cost Cutters who beat us pretty well in the consolation game. In the Championship game Nakoma Dental played Old Chicago Pizza, and Nakoma won.
My Baseball season was really fun, and I liked playing with my team, because everyone had a good attitude. We worked together and I learned a lot about team work. When we worked together we almost never get beaten. We came in Fourth Place last year. I’m looking forward to next season!!
